Key Pricing Components:
Storage Costs:
Standard Storage: ~$0.30 per GB per month.
Infrequent Access (IA) Storage: ~$0.025 per GB per month.
Data Transfer Costs:
Data Transfer Between EC2 and EFS: Data transfer between EC2 instances and EFS is free within the same Availability Zone.
Data Transfer Between AZs: If you use multi-AZ deployment for EFS, data transfer between Availability Zones is also free, but additional costs could apply if data is transferred outside the region.
Request Costs:
File Operations: EFS charges based on the number of file system operations, such as read and write requests. The pricing varies depending on whether you’re using the Standard or Infrequent Access (IA) storage class.
Standard Storage: ~$0.04 per 1,000,000 operations.
Infrequent Access Storage: ~$0.15 per 1,000,000 operations.
Lifecycle Management:
If you enable Lifecycle Management to automatically move data between Standard and IA storage classes based on access patterns, there might be a small additional cost for the data moved to IA storage.
Provisioned Throughput:
If you need higher throughput performance, you can provision throughput for your EFS file system. Pricing for provisioned throughput is typically:
$6.00 per provisioned MB/s per month.
Example Pricing:
- If you store 100 GB of data in Standard Storage and 50 GB in Infrequent Access, and your file system has 1 million operations per month, the cost would look something like:
- Standard Storage: 100 GB * $0.30 = $30.00 per month
- Infrequent Access Storage: 50 GB * $0.025 = $1.25 per month
- File Operations: 1 million operations * $0.04 = $0.04
- Total Estimated Cost: ~$31.29 per month (excluding any additional data transfer or provisioned throughput charges).
